รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ในฐานะผู้แทนพิเศษ (Special Envoy)
เมื่อวันที่ ๔ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๖๗ นางสาวบุษฎี สันติพิทักษ์ รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ในฐานะผู้แทนพิเศษ (Special Envoy) ของนายกรัฐมนตรี เข้าร่วมพิธีเปิดการประชุมสุดยอดอิสลาม ครั้งที่ ๑๕ (15th Islamic Summit) ขององค์การความร่วมมืออิสลาม (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation: OIC) ที่จัดขึ้นที่กรุงบันจูล สาธารณรัฐแกมเบีย โดยมีนายดามพ์ บุญธรรม เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงริยาด/ ผู้แทนถาวรไทยประจำ OIC เข้าร่วมด้วย
การประชุมฯ ครั้งนี้ จัดขึ้นภายใต้หัวข้อ “การส่งเสริมความสามัคคีและความเป็นน้ำหนึ่งใจเดียวกันผ่านการหารือเพื่อการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน” (Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development) ซึ่งนอกเหนือจากการให้ความสำคัญกับสถานการณ์ในตะวันออกกลางโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งสภาวการณ์การสู้รบระหว่างอิสราเอล – ฮามาสและสถานะของปาเลสไตน์แล้ว ที่ประชุมฯ ยังคงให้ความสำคัญกับประเด็นด้านเศรษฐกิจ สังคม ความมั่นคงทางอาหาร การให้ความช่วยเหลือด้านมนุษยธรรม ปัญหาชาวโรฮิงญา สถานะของเยาวชนและสตรี วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี รวมถึงประเด็นการหวาดกลัวอิสลาม (Islamophobia) ซึ่งรวมถึงประทุษวาจาหรือการสื่อสารที่ก่อให้เกิดความเกลียดชัง (hate speech)
ทั้งนี้ องค์การความร่วมมืออิสลามมีสมาชิก ๕๗ ประเทศ นับเป็นองค์การระหว่างรัฐบาลที่สำคัญที่สุดของโลกมุสลิม โดยประเทศไทยเข้าร่วมเป็นผู้สังเกตการณ์ (Observer) ของ OIC ตั้งแต่เมื่อวันที่ ๑ ตุลาคม ๒๕๔๑ โดยเป็น ๑ ใน ๕ ประเทศที่ได้รับสถานะผู้สังเกตการณ์ ซึ่งการเข้าร่วมเป็นประเทศผู้สังเกตการณ์ของ OIC ของไทยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ และข้อมูลในประเด็นเกี่ยวข้องกับชุมชนมุสลิม เพิ่มช่องทางการขยายความร่วมมือกับประเทศโลกอิสลาม และขยายโอกาสการร่วมมืออย่างสร้างสรรค์ระหว่างชุมชนไทยมุสลิมกับมุสลิมทั่วโลก โดยไทยให้ความสำคัญกับความร่วมมือกับ OIC และได้ส่งคณะผู้แทนเข้าร่วมการประชุมสำคัญของ OIC อย่างสม่ำเสมอ

On 4 May 2024, Her Excellency Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary as the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, together with His Excellency Mr. Darm Boontham, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the OIC, attended the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Banjul, the Republic of The Gambia.
The Summit is held under the theme “Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development”. While the Summit focussed on the situation in the Middle East, especially the situation between Israel and Hamas and the status of Palestine, the Summit also attached importance to issues of common concern for the Muslim World such as economic cooperation, social matters, food security, humanitarian assistance, plights of the Rohingya people, status of youth and women, science and technology, as well as Islamophobia and hate speech.
The OIC with 57 Member States, is the most important International Organization of the Muslim World. Thailand is among the 5 Observers of the OIC which was granted the Observer status on 1 October 1998. Thailand joined the OIC primarily to exchange knowledge and better understanding of the Muslim community, expand channels of cooperation with the Muslim World, and enhance communication and collaboration between the Thai Muslim community and other Muslim communities around the world. Thailand highly values her cooperation with the OIC and has always participated in all the relevant OIC meetings.
