การประชุมปรึกษาหารือทวิภาคี ไทย – ไนจีเรีย ครั้งที่ 1 ณ กรุงอาบูจา
เมื่อวันที่ 24 สิงหาคม 2569 นางศิริลักษณ์ นิยม รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เดินทางเยือนสหพันธ์สาธารณรัฐไนจีเรียเพื่อเป็นประธานร่วมกับนาย Grema Garba Satomi รองปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศไนจีเรียในการประชุมปรึกษาหารือทวิภาคี ไทย – ไนจีเรีย ครั้งที่ 1 ณ กรุงอาบูจา
ในโอกาสนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้ทบทวนพัฒนาการความสัมพันธ์ทวิภาคีและแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับแนวทางขยายความร่วมมือในสาขาที่มีศักยภาพ รวมถึงความร่วมมือระหว่างกันในระดับภูมิภาค
ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังเห็นพ้องว่า การประชุมฯ ครั้งนี้จะเป็นกลไกขับเคลื่อนความสัมพันธ์ทวิภาคีไทย-ไนจีเรียให้ใกล้ชิดยิ่งขึ้นบนพื้นฐานความร่วมมือแบบใต้-ใต้ (South-South cooperation) ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับนโยบาย Thailand-Africa Initiative (TAI) โดยมุ่งเน้นการกระชับความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืน ตลอดจนการส่งเสริมผลประโยชน์ร่วมกันในกรอบเวทีระหว่างประเทศ
ทั้งนี้ ทั้งสองประเทศเห็นศักยภาพของกันและกันในการเป็นประตูเชื่อมโยงระหว่างภูมิภาค โดยไนจีเรียเป็นประตูสู่แอฟริกา ขณะที่ไทยเป็นประตูสู่อาเซียน โดยฝ่ายไนจีเรียพร้อมที่จะให้การสนับสนุนไทยในการส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์กับสหภาพแอฟริกา (African Union: AU) และประชาคมเศรษฐกิจแห่งรัฐแอฟริกาตะวันตก (Economic Community of West African States: ECOWAS) ภายใต้นโยบาย TAI ของไทย
ในด้านเศรษฐกิจ ทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นพ้องถึงศักยภาพในการขยายความร่วมมือในด้านความมั่นคงทางอาหารและพลังงาน พร้อมทั้งส่งเสริมการเชื่อมโยงระหว่างภาคเอกชน ตลอดจนให้ความสำคัญกับความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนา โดยฝ่ายไทยยินดีที่จะต่อยอดความร่วมมือด้านการพัฒนาทรัพยากรมนุษย์ การถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยีด้านการเกษตรและการเพาะเลี้ยงสัตว์น้ำ และการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมฮาลาล นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังได้หารือความร่วมมือด้านกงสุล และการต่อต้านอาชญากรรมข้ามชาติ โดยเฉพาะปัญหาการหลอกลวงออนไลน์และการค้ามนุษย์ โดยมุ่งแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลข่าวกรองและเสริมสร้างขีดความสามารถของหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง
ไนจีเรียเป็นคู่ค้าอันดับสองของไทยในภูมิภาคแอฟริกา โดยมีมูลค่าการค้าระหว่างกัน 1.2 พันล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐในปี 2568 ไนจีเรียยังเป็นประเทศที่ประชากรมากกว่า 230 ล้านคน มีศักยภาพด้านอุตสาหกรรมพลังงาน สินแร่ ไม้และอัญมณี และเป็นที่ตั้งของสำนักงาน ECOWAS ตลอดจนเป็นสมาชิกของเขตการค้าเสรีทวีปแอฟริกา (African Continental Free Trade Area: AfCFTA)
On 24 August 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, visited the Federal Republic of Nigeria to co-chair, together with Mr. Grema Garba Satomi, Director of Regions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, the First Thailand–Nigeria Bilateral Consultations in Abuja.
On this occasion, the two sides reviewed developments in the bilateral relations and exchanged views on ways to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Both sides also agreed that the Consultations would serve as a mechanism to further advance Thailand–Nigeria relations based on South-South Cooperation. This is in line with the Thailand-Africa Initiative (TAI), with a focus on strengthening cooperation on economic and sustainable development, as well as promoting mutual interests in international frameworks.
In this regard, both sides recognised each other’s potential as gateways connecting the two regions, with Nigeria serving as a gateway to Africa and Thailand as a gateway to ASEAN. The Nigerian side expressed its readiness to support Thailand in promoting its relations with the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) under Thailand’s TAI policy.
On the economic front, both sides recognised the potential to expand cooperation in food and energy security, while promoting private-sector linkages and placing importance on development cooperation. The Thai side expressed its readiness to build upon cooperation in human resource development, the exchange of agricultural and aquaculture technologies, and the development of the halal industry. The two sides also discussed cooperation on consular matters and combating transnational crime, particularly online scams and human trafficking, including on exchanging intelligence and strengthening the capacity of relevant agencies.
Nigeria is Thailand’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching USD 1.2 billion in 2025. Nigeria is most the populous country in Africa, with a population of more than 230 million, and has significant potential in the energy, mineral resources, timber and gemstone sectors. It is also home to the headquarters of ECOWAS and a member of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
