ให้การต้อนรับนาง Suzanne Skinner รองปลัดด้านการค้าและความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ
เมื่อวันที่ 20 พ.ค. 2569 นางหัทยา คูสกุล อธิบดีกรมอเมริกาและแปซิฟิกใต้ ให้การต้อนรับนาง Suzanne Skinner รองปลัดด้านการค้าและความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ กระทรวงพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจ การสร้างงานและการค้า รัฐออนแทรีโอ แคนาดา พร้อมด้วยนางสาว Chelsea Peet ที่ปรึกษาและเศรษฐกรอาวุโส สำนักงานการค้าและการลงทุนรัฐออนแทรีโอประจำสิงคโปร์ และนาย Bernie Derible ผู้แทนสำนักงานการค้าและการลงทุนรัฐออนแทรีโอประจำประเทศไทย ในโอกาสการเยือนไทยของคณะผู้แทนรัฐออนแทรีโอ ทั้งสองฝ่ายยินดีกับความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างไทยกับแคนาดาที่เป็นไปด้วยมิตรไมตรีและสร้างสรรค์ โดยจะครบรอบ 65 ปีในปีนี้ ซึ่งฝ่ายไทยและแคนาดาได้เตรียมจัดกิจกรรมเฉลิมฉลองและผลักดันความร่วมมือด้านเศรษฐกิจ การค้า การลงทุน การศึกษา และความร่วมมือระหว่างประชาชน
อธิบดีกรมอเมริกาฯ ย้ำความสำคัญของการเจรจาความตกลงการค้าเสรีระหว่างไทยกับแคนาดา เพื่อเป็นกลไกขยายการค้าและการลงทุน ตลอดจนให้ข้อมูลอุตสาหกรรมเป้าหมายของไทย อาทิ เศรษฐกิจดิจิทัล เทคโนโลยีสีเขียว ปัญญาประดิษฐ์ ความมั่นคงทางไซเบอร์ การแพทย์ การท่องเที่ยวเชิงสุขภาพ เทคโนโลยีชีวภาพ และอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ไฟฟ้า รวมถึงความต้องการพัฒนาทุนมนุษย์และการแลกเปลี่ยนองค์ความรู้จากแคนาดา นาง Skinner แสดงความพร้อมร่วมมือกับไทย โดยเฉพาะในสาขาที่รัฐออนแทรีโอมีความเชี่ยวชาญ ได้แก่ เทคโนโลยีดิจิทัล ปัญญาประดิษฐ์ ความมั่นคงทางไซเบอร์ พลังงานนิวเคลียร์ อุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์และชิ้นส่วน รวมถึงแบตเตอรี่ของ EV และการผลิตขั้นสูง
รัฐออนแทรีโอเป็นรัฐที่มีขนาดเศรษฐกิจใหญ่ที่สุดในแคนาดา โดยคิดเป็นประมาณร้อยละ 40 ของประเทศ และมีมูลค่าการค้ากับไทยมากกว่า 3,000 ล้านดอลลาร์แคนาดา นับตั้งแต่ปี 2567 เป็นต้นมา โดยเป็นที่ตั้งของบริษัทเอกชนชั้นนำของแคนาดา รวมถึงหลายบริษัทในสาขา AI นอกจากนี้ รัฐออนแทรีโอมีสถาบันการศึกษาชั้นนำกว่า 44 แห่ง และมีผู้สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับสูงโดยเฉพาะสาขาวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยี วิศวกรรมศาสตร์ และคณิตศาสตร์ (STEM) ประมาณ 86,000 คนต่อปี ปัจจุบัน รัฐออนแทรีโอมีสำนักงานการค้าและการลงทุน (Ontario Trade and Investment Office) ในประเทศไทย ซึ่งรับผิดชอบการส่งเสริมการค้าและการลงทุนกับประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียน
On 20 May 2026, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, welcomed H.E. Ms. Suzanne Skinner, Assistant Deputy Minister for Trade and International Engagement, Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade of Ontario, Canada, together with Ms. Chelsea Peet, Head of Office and Senior Economic Officer at the Ontario Trade and Investment Office in Singapore, and Mr. Bernie Derible, Agent-General of the Ontario Trade and Investment Office in Thailand, during the Ontario delegation’s visit to Thailand. Both sides expressed appreciation for Thailand – Canada relations, which have been cordial and constructive and will mark their 65th anniversary this year. Thailand and Canada have planned commemorative activities and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Director-General underscored the importance of negotiations on a free trade agreement between Thailand and Canada as a mechanism to expand bilateral trade and investment. She also highlighted Thailand’s priority sectors, including the digital economy, green technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, medical services, wellness tourism, biotechnology, and the electric vehicle industry, as well as Thailand’s interest in human capital development and knowledge exchange from Canada. Ms. Skinner reaffirmed Ontario’s readiness to cooperate with Thailand, particularly in areas where Ontario has strong expertise, such as digital technology, AI, cybersecurity, nuclear energy, the automotive industry and auto parts, including EV batteries, and advanced manufacturing.
Ontario is the largest provincial economy in Canada, accounting for approximately 40 percent of the national GDP, and has recorded more than 3 billion Canadian dollars in trade with Thailand annually since 2024. It is home to many of Canada’s leading companies, including those in the AI sector. In addition, Ontario hosts more than 44 higher-education institutions and produces approximately 86,000 graduates annually in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The province also maintains an Ontario Trade and Investment Office in Thailand, responsible for promoting trade and investment with ASEAN Member States.
